About Baraja
Baraja is changing the world of self-driving cars through the invention of a new type of LiDAR called Spectrum-Scan™ that delivers ultra-high performance at high resolution, even at incredibly far distances. Today, Baraja LiDAR is already deployed in multiple verticals, working with global automotive and industrial partners.

Originally founded in Sydney, Australia, we also have offices in the US, China and Europe. We are funded by Sequoia Capital, Blackbird and Main Sequence Ventures and we are excited to continue growing the team, so if you are looking for a fast-paced, dynamic role in a start-up we are keen to hear from you!

The Opportunity
We are launching to the automotive industry. Now is your chance to make an impact on the design, development & integration of our next generation LiDAR!

We are looking for a Graduate Mechatronic Systems Engineer to support the development of our manufacturing process and testing rigs.

The role reports to the Manufacturing Systems Team Lead in our growing Advanced Manufacturing team.

Your Success

The primary focus is to calibrate the testing rig for our flagship product: the miniaturised version of our LiDAR. This will take the following roadmap:

1- Set up the testing rig

Test procedures are provided by the respective Engineering teams. This includes:

  • Support the development of the F2A (Frequency to Angle) process and testing rig
  • Specify what components is needed to run a test
  • Provide manufacturing support to current products as needed by debugging issues with current manufacturing rigs or introducing needed software and hardware changes
  • Verify that the tests are performing as expected

2 – Introduce robotic automation
We'd like to implement Motion Stages to automate manual tasks on the test rig and assembly line. This includes:

  • Develop software and rig modifications to implement ECO (Engineering Change Order) that are introducing a new product feature to our existing LiDAR system to meet specific production and volume requirements
  • Assist the design and re-engineering of existing software and test processes with a view for volume production and process automation

3 – Upskill Technicians

  • Provide training and guidelines to technicians, demonstrating and promoting safe work practices and methodologies
  • Provide software and equipment documentation to manufacturing (Baraja's Pilot Manufacturing team and external suppliers)
  • Provide software and equipment documentation to manufacturing

Your Qualifications & Skills

You have commercial experience in Mechatronics Engineering. This includes the following:

  • Mechanical design
  • Experience with low level sensors and actuators
  • C# or Python

Desirable

Ideally, you'd have commercial experience in the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Electronics, Software, Robotics, Optical Engineering, etc)

Our Culture & Values

We believe that our culture is one of our most important assets and we've wrapped it up with three key values that we do our best to live up to every day:

  • Hustle to deliver on hard and meaningful problems - Passion to achieve. Resilience & learning. What's the next challenge?
  • Build the machine that builds the machine - It's not enough to design amazing products, we need to design the means to manufacture these products, at scale.
  • Develop sustained high performance - Great teams make great things. They also respectfully challenge each other to reach the next milestone.

We work in an Agile (i.e. SCRUM, Kanban) fashion where multi-disciplinary squads are formed from tribes. This includes:

  • Horizon model (e.g. Product Plan, Product Roadmap)
  • Product Development Process (e.g. Phase & Gate: PDR, DDR, CDR, etc)
  • Design Thinking (e.g. Viability, Feasibility, Usability, etc)

We work towards our goals by being in constant communication in person and through a range of technologies. We also have big ears for feedback from customers to help us continually improve the Baraja experience. We are pretty good at what we do (but definitely not perfect), so you'll be learning from and working with a top-flight team on a mission to be better every day.
